Kate Middleton, Prince William File Criminal Complaint Over Topless Pictures

Days after launching an injunction in a civil case against Closer magazine, Kate Middleton and Prince William have filed a criminal complaint in a French court.

Seeking justice against those who disseminated Kate Middleton topless photos last week, the complaint asks prosecutors to charge the paparazzo behind the shots.

Of course, there was no name listed in the royals' criminal complaint, as it's unclear who was responsible for taking the pics published in the celebrity gossip mag.

Under French law, those convicted of violating Will and Kate's privacy - the unnamed paparazzo and Closer's editor, in theory - could face thousands of euros in fines.

A possible one-year jail sentence is also on the table, albeit unlikely.

As it happened, Closer removed the pics from its website on Friday shortly after being sued, and before the criminal complaint was even filed by the royals.

However, Closer's Italian sister publication, Chi, ran a 26-page spread today of Kate Middleton nude and topless images, many of them the same as Closer's.

A statement released by Mondadori, the group that owns Chi and Closer, defended the decisions made by the respective editors to run a report on the pictures:

"The publisher respects the arguments put forward by the editors."

The hardest part in getting a website off the ground purely for Google Adsense, known as a ?mini site?, is coming up with a topic that hasn?t already been done to death and then researching your keywords with the likes of WordTracker / Overture, and so on. In comparison, writing the content is a doddle?relatively.

Google Adsense is great; it?s basically free money once you have invested some time. If you already have a website that is selling a product, pasting some html code into the pages only takes minutes and you have paying ads immediately. But what we?re talking about here is Adsense-targeted pages.

Perhaps the best advice for copywriting for Adsense is to not provide the entire skinny on the topic you are writing about; simply give people a taster so that they will hopefully click a related ad on your page in thinking that the site they are clicking through to will teach them further.

Google doesn?t actually care how your copy is written. Google doesn?t penalise you for not mimicking the writing prowess of William Shakespeare. Google works by looking at the distribution of your keywords on the page, keyword density, is the keyword in the title and page name, and originality, and so on.

Aesthetically-speaking, the reason you want your site to look good is for the visitor, whom on pondering your site for the few nanoseconds it takes for the human brain to decide whether your site is any good or not, will stay there, browse the content and click on an ad if they feel enlightened.

You don?t particularly need to worry about making it pretty for return customers, as people who keep coming back to your pages are less likely to click on an ad anyway; which is the whole purpose of making the site in the first place. What you want are unique visitors to the site and to get them to click through.

A few basic tips on copywriting for Google Adsense:

The first couple of paragraphs are the most important, particularly the very first one. It?s great that you have written thousands of words on the subject that you know inside out, but unless you sound convincing on the first paragraph, there is a greater chance your visitor will hit the back button.

About 300 words per page is a good amount to aim for, which is about the optimum for getting the correct keyword density on a page. Any less than 200 words and Google, et al, will give that page less weight as it assumes, perhaps incorrectly, that you cannot possibly describe a topic with this meagre amount of words.

Your chosen keyword phrase should appear several times in the text, but not too much as that is considered spamming and will likely fetch you a penalty. A ball park figure is about twice in the first paragraph, twice in the last one and perhaps once in the other paragraphs; one or two of which should feature your chosen keyword phrase rewritten slightly differently.

Target only one keyword phrase per page ? it?s not a good idea to target single keywords, unless unique, as they are already very highly contested. Bold type the keywords a few times throughout the content; this will help the search engines and may also halt a roving eye. Use bullet points when listing several topics to break up the monotony of sentences and paragraphs; unlike the way this page is written.

Punctuation and grammar should be kept fairly tight, although, again, don?t kill yourself on this as Google won?t mind if you miss a comma here and there. As long as the copy is flowing and the reader doesn?t think you are a complete amateur. Just be mindful of your ?your? and ?you?re?, and your ?it?s? and ?its?, and so on, as faltering here really will make your site look amateurish.

Refrain from putting too many graphics on your pages, as many people are still on dial-up and any longer than a few seconds for your page to load up and it is likely the visitor will hit the back button. Same goes for those pages with the likes of ?Enter Site Here? once you have already clicked through from the SERPs?annoying to say the least.

Following these basic pointers will help you construct copy for attracting Google Ads more efficiently, but if you are selling a product on your site, you will need the copy to sound as enticing as possible to attract the visitor and to keep them coming back.

It goes without saying, however, that many people will even struggle with copywriting for Adsense, let alone for a site that needs to sound professional and refined. By far the easiest way to get your site off the ground in this case, is to acquire the services of a professional copywriting website and also have them do your SEO (search engine optimization) to help get your pages up in the rankings quickly.

Good luck?

Iran urges West to take action on anti-Islam film

(AP) ? Iran's top leader urged the West on Monday to show it respects Muslims by blocking a film that mocks the Prophet Muhammad and has touched off rage across the Islamic world.

State TV quoted Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as saying Western leaders must prove they are not "accomplices" in a "big crime."

Such an appeal falls into the major cultural divide over the film. U.S. officials say they cannot limit free speech and Google Inc. refuses to do a blanket ban on the YouTube video clip. This leaves individual countries putting up their own blocks.

Khamenei noted that some nations place restrictions on expression deemed hate speech, such as banning Nazi-related sites, or legislating protections for gays or lesbians.

"How there is no room for freedom of expression in these cases, but insulting Islam and its sanctities is free?" Khamenei was quoted as saying.

Separately, Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said Iran will send a protest letter on the film to the U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Iranians have staged several demonstrations against the film, but none have been violent. Crowds gathered last week in front of the Swiss Embassy, which looks after American diplomatic interests in Iran.

A semi-official religious foundation also increased a reward it had offered for the killing of British author Salman Rushdie to $3.3 million from $2.8 million over his book "The Satanic Verses," which was considered blasphemous by Iranian leaders.

A 1989 fatwa, or religious edict, was issued against Rushdie by Iran's late leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, but Iranian authorities have since distanced themselves from the order.

Review: iPhone 5 blends beauty with versatility

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? As I played around with the iPhone 5, I wondered what the late Steve Jobs would have thought about the latest twist on Apple's best-selling device.

It didn't take long to conclude that Jobs would have been delighted with the iPhone 5's blend of beauty, utility and versatility.

Add in the more advanced technology and new features that went into this iPhone, and it's clear Apple has come up with another product that will compel hordes of people to line up outside its stores before its release next Friday.

After going on sale in the U.S., Japan, Britain, Germany, France and four other countries, the mad dash will be repeated again on Sept. 28 in 22 other countries. All iPhone 5 models will sell for the same prices as their predecessors, starting at $199 with a two-year data and calling plan.

An important caveat about these impressions: I was allotted only about 15 minutes with the iPhone 5 at Wednesday's launch event, not enough time to discover if it might have some technological bugs. I am sure that in the coming days, other reviewers will have the opportunity to give the phone a more thorough vetting.

For many people, the iPhone is going to be a case of love at first touch.

It is incredibly light and seems easier to hold. That means it might not be dropped as frequently as previous iPhones, reducing the chances of the glass on the display screen getting damaged.

One woman who also was testing out an iPhone 5 couldn't stop raving about how ideal the new design was for people with smaller hands.

The new iPhone also is easy on the eyes, thanks to a larger screen and its "Retina Display," the high-definition technology that Apple introduced in previous models. Video and photos look even lusher on the iPhone 5's bigger and better screen.

At 4 inches diagonally, the iPhone 5's screen is a half-inch larger than previous generations. That's still smaller than the one on Samsung's flagship Galaxy S III, but the iPhone 5 is lighter.

Apple made sure to take advantage of the larger display. The extra space means you can now see five rows of apps on the home screen instead of the previous four. Open the calendar and you can see five days of events on the screen in horizontal mode, instead of just three.

The larger screen really comes to life, though, with what is perhaps its coolest feature ? a tool called Panorama that automatically stitches together a series of pictures into a majestic vista. Panorama can be turned on simply by going into the iPhone 5's camera mode and selecting it on an option menu.

Once it's activated, an arrow guides you as you slowly pan the camera around whatever scenery you desire. If you move too fast, Panorama tells you to slow down. It also advises you if you are moving the camera too high or low. Once you are done, you can look at the panoramic shot within seconds and zoom into whichever areas of the picture look most interesting.

Not surprisingly, watching video on the larger screen is also more pleasurable, although I still think the iPad and other tablet computers are a much better way to enjoy movies and TV shows on the go.

The device is also speedier because it has a more powerful processing chip and upgraded wireless technology that accelerates Web surfing.

Apple also has equipped the iPhone 5 with a superior sound system, courtesy of the new headphones that the company says it spent three years developing. The headphones, called EarPods, are a vast improvement on the earbuds that Apple has been giving away with its devices for more than a decade. The new headphones actually stay in your ears and make it seem as if the sound is playing inside your head. The EarPods come free with the iPhone 5, and they sounded as good as $100 headphones sold by a variety of other companies.

The new phone's operating system, iOS 6, also introduces another fun toy that makes it easy to share photos with your friends and family. Just select a picture, or even a series of photos, then email them to whomever you want, without the need for messy attachments.

Assuming the recipients also have Apple devices running on iOS 6, they will receive a notification asking if they would like to have the designated photos sent to their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.

The recipients don't necessarily have to own an iPhone 5 for this photo-sharing feature because the new iOS can be downloaded for free beginning next Wednesday on a wide range of older Apple devices, including the three previous versions of the iPhone and the past two versions of the iPad. Those eligible will get a notification and will have to initiate the upgrade if they want it.

The new operating system also stands out for what's missing.

The pre-installed YouTube app that had been part of the iPhone since it came out in 2007 is gone. You'd need to download a new application made by YouTube owner Google Inc. in Apple's iTunes store.

Even more noticeable is the absence of Google Maps. Apple has cast aside one of Google's most popular services for its own mapping system. From what I saw, it looks like it's going to keep users happy. It offers aerial views, three-dimensional renderings of many major cities and, best of all, turn-by-turn directions narrated by the iPhone's virtual assistant, Siri. That was a feature Google had limited to competing devices running its Android system. Assuming the directions are accurate, I doubt Google Maps is going to be missed.

The new iOS also offers a feature called Passbook, where digital coupons, airline tickets and gift cards can be conveniently stored in one location. This, too, is going to be popular.

Yet, Passbook would be even handier if the iPhone 5 had a near-field communication chip to enable wireless payments at checkout stands equipped for the still-nascent technology. Some Android phones are able to process payments because they have the NFC chip.

Siri is also supposed to be smarter and even more helpful in the iPhone 5, although I didn't get a chance to challenge her in Apple's noisy testing room.

Too bad, as I would have liked to ask Siri what Steve Jobs might have thought of the iPhone 5. But, I am pretty sure I know the answer.

Earthquake in southwest China kills dozens

At least 60 people have been killed and 20,000 homes damaged by a series of earthquakes, one measuring 5.7 in magnitude, in southwestern China, local authorities and state media say.

The largest of the tremors struck the border between Yunnan and Guizhou provinces at about 11:00am local time (03:00 GMT)?on Friday. The state-run Xinhua news agency said the earthquake hit the border area of Yiliang county of Yunnan and Weining county of Guizhou.

By mid-afternoon, authorities had moved more than 100,000 from the area as a series of more than 60 aftershocks struck.

Zhang Junwei, a spokesperson from the Yunnan seismological bureau, said that the deaths all occurred in Yiliang, and that another 150 people were hurt.

The main tremor, which occurred at a depth of 14km, was followed by a series of aftershocks, the China Earthquake Networks Centre said. The earthquake was also felt in neighbouring Sichuan province.

Xinhua said the provincial government had sent work teams to the quake-hit area and the civil affairs department was shipping thousands of tents, blankets and coats to the area.

Al Jazeera's Marga Ortigas, reporting from Hong Kong, said that the military had been deployed to conduct search and rescue operations in the area.

The US Geological Survey put the magnitude of the largest quake at 5.6 and said it struck at a depth of 10km.

Buildings damaged

Footage from state broadcaster CCTV showed boulder-covered roadways, abandoned cars and black smoke pouring from buildings.

"The hardest part of the rescue now is traffic. Roads are blocked and rescuers have to climb the mountains to reach hard-hit villages," Xinhua quoted Li Fuchun, an official from Luozehe, the town at the epicentre of the quake, as saying.

The death toll may rise as rescuers reach villages cut off by landslides, the news agency said.

Local residents described how people ran out of buildings screaming as the quake hit.

"I was walking on the street when I suddenly felt the ground shaking beneath me. People started rushing outside screaming, it still scares me to think of it now," posted one on Sina Weibo, a microblogging service similar to Twitter.

Photographs posted online showed streets strewn with rocks and bricks from damaged buildings.

Mobile phone services were down and regular phone lines disrupted in the area.

Xinhua said that so far no casualties had been reported in Guizhou, but that homes had been damaged or destroyed there.

"This is a very agricultural, rural area of southwestern China [and it is] also very mountainous and hilly," reported?Al?Jazeera's Ortigas.?"The buildings in those areas and the construction is known to be quite poor."

Southwestern China is prone to earthquakes. In May 2008, an 8.0-magnitude tremor hit Sichuan province?and parts of neighbouring Shaanxi and Gansu provinces, killing?tens of thousands of people and flattening?many areas.
