Iraqi officials say 5 dead in series of attacks targeting security forces

BAGHDAD - Attackers killed five Iraqi security officials including a one-star general on Wednesday, officials said.

Police said Brig. Gen. Nadhum Tayeh was driving to work early in the day in Baghdad when a carload of gunmen opened fire on him.

Hours later, authorities said an off-duty army colonel was killed in a roadside bombing in northern Baghdad. Officials spoke on condition of anonymity in both cases because they were not authorized to release the information.

The deadliest attack of the day came in the city of Kirkuk, where three policemen were killed and six wounded. City police Cmdr. Sarhad Qadir said their convoy hit another roadside bomb.

Kirkuk is 290 kilometres (180 miles) north of Baghdad.

Security forces are a top target for insurgents seeking to destabilize Iraq.

Game Completion Competition ? EverydayChris' Week 3 Blog

So despite all the nonsense that has been talked (mainly by Barry,) I have finally put an end to a game. ?After almost a week and some change of completion inactivity I was able to put an end to quite a good game in Rayman: Origins. I clocked in ten hours and forty three minutes missing out out on an extra 10 points because of two measly minutes. ?Frankly I?m surprised, I tried to soldier on with this game but found the last few stages extremely difficult and frustrating but I didn?t falter. ?While these other fools take the easy path by playing games on super easy mode, games they have almost completed, I on the other hand am?playing?through these games from the very beginning. ?Rayman was a stellar platformer, and this is coming from a person who is not into 2D platformers much. ?It was fun and playing co-op with my younger brother made things more entertaining.

I also spent some time?playing?Bastion, I am right at the end of the game but am trying to milk as much out of the game I can. ?Just spending some time trying to net a number of achievements.

The other big title I bagged was Darksiders 2, which I?ve spent close to ten hours playing. ?I?ll save my impressions for my review, but I must say I really enjoy this game. ?It took what the first Darksiders did and took a step further. ?It?s very similar like the advancement from Arkham Asylum to Arkham City, a lot more?of?the same but that?s?not?a bad thing.

I still have Assassins Creed and Saints Row that i need to finish. ?Two games which I declared and have yet to finish (I?m only still at the beginning in Saints Row The Third). ?I also declared Dust: An Elysian Tale which i thought I was going to play but have?not?gotten the chance to do so. ?It?s an arcade title that won?t take too long to get through. ?As you all know this is yet another update on your champion of this competition. ?Until next time.

Network Marketing: A Chance to Change Everything

It?s difficult from this side of the coin to convey to you just how utterly important it is to seriously think about starting a network marketing business. The health benefits of the particular company we work with are obvious and easier to understand, but the business side, the truly life-changing aspect of our business is the hardest to get you to consider. From your position, I know exactly what it looks like. Simply put, it?s just ?too good to be true.? In fact, it must somehow be some sort of money-sucking scam where you end up losing all of your cash and your pride which, I get, can be much harder to part with.

Network marketing is a new concept for many Gen X & Y?ers ? I actually didn?t know anything about it at all when I started. To most baby boomers, it?s obviously a "pyramid scheme" (tell me, can you define that? Because when people do, it sounds exactly like what it?s like to be an employee? I?m just sayin?). Thus, it is much wiser and safer to remain a ?sheeple? and cling desperately to a job that you despise and that slowly drains your precious life force on a daily and consistent basis. Been there, done that, never going back.

Does it really make sense to give up all hope for a better life based solely on some pre-existing fears that, when broken down, aren?t really truth?

Hope is exactly what my network marketing business gave me. It gave me an invaluable way to revolutionize my life ? who I am, what I do, how I define myself, my purpose in life, my ability to help others and impact the world in a lasting way that has the ability to circumvent the entire world and leave a legacy that will continue on much longer than my own time on earth.

Still sound like a scam to you?

As I write this on a plane flying somewhere high above the Southeastern U.S., heading back from a company-sponsored and paid-for retreat at a classy resort in the mountains of the majestic Northwest, network marketing is the best decision I have ever made in my life (besides choosing Rob, my best friend since age 15, as my life mate ).

Big Bang theory challenged by big chill

ScienceDaily (Aug. 20, 2012) ? The start of the Universe should be modeled not as a Big Bang but more like water freezing into ice, according to a team of theoretical physicists at the University of Melbourne and RMIT University.

They have suggested that by investigating the cracks and crevices common to all crystals -- including ice -- our understanding of the nature of the Universe could be revolutionized.

Lead researcher on the project, James Quach said current theorizing is the latest in a long quest by humans to understand the origins and nature of the Universe.

"Ancient Greek philosophers wondered what matter was made of: was it made of a continuous substance or was it made of individual atoms?" he said. "With very powerful microscopes, we now know that matter is made of atoms."

"Thousands of years later, Albert Einstein assumed that space and time were continuous and flowed smoothly, but we now believe that this assumption may not be valid at very small scales.

"A new theory, known as Quantum Graphity, suggests that space may be made up of indivisible building blocks, like tiny atoms. These indivisible blocks can be thought about as similar to pixels that make up an image on a screen. The challenge has been that these building blocks of space are very small, and so impossible to see directly."

However James Quach and his colleagues believe they may have figured out a way to see them indirectly.

"Think of the early universe as being like a liquid," he said. "Then as the universe cools, it 'crystallizes' into the three spatial and one time dimension that we see today. Theorized this way, as the Universe cools, we would expect that cracks should form, similar to the way cracks are formed when water freezes into ice."

RMIT University research team member Associate Professor Andrew Greentree said some of these defects might be visible.

"Light and other particles would bend or reflect off such defects, and therefore in theory we should be able to detect these effects," he said.

The team has calculated some of these effects and if their predictions are experimentally verified, the question as to whether space is smooth or constructed out of tiny indivisible parts will be solved once and for all.

The team is supported by the Australian Research Council, and their research was published in the latest edition of the journal Physical Review D.
