'Paranormal Witness' Season 2, Episode 12... | Gather

'Paranormal Witness' saved the best episode for last. Here they focus on the Becker family, Ed, Marsha and their newborn daughter Christine. The events took place in Chicago between 1970 and 1971. Ed and Marsha Becker appear as does Dan White.

The show starts with Ed returning home from paying the rent. He tells his wife who is 7 months pregnant that the landlady wants them out. She doesn't rent to people with pets or children. They have two months to make other arrangements. Ed starts looking for another place to live and stumbles upon a townhouse in Chicago that is for sale. It has two units so he and his wife could live in one and rent the other one; this arrangement would make it possible to afford the mortgage payments.

As Ed is looking at the property with the Realtor, an old woman, Myra Verdere, starts yelling and cursing at him. The Realtor assures him that the woman does not come with the house. She is the last remaining member of the family that built the property and will be moved into a retirement community in a few days. With that promise Ed buys the house.

Ed and Marsha move into the house a few days after the birth of their daughter, Christine, and Marsha spends the first days tending to their new daughter and trying to get the house arranged. One of the first things she does is place the crystal candy dish in the center of the dining room table. Marsha remarked that she was very careful with it because it was one of the few really nice wedding gifts that she and Ed were given. She turned away from the table to begin going through another box and when she turned back the candy dish had moved to the opposite side of the table.

A few days later Ed called home from work. The phone was busy so he decided to try again later. This went on all day. When he got home he was angry and demanded to know who Marsha had been on the phone with all day. She was surprised because she hadn't been on the phone at all and when she went to check the phone it was off the hook. Ed was irritated that she hadn't noticed that all day.

Shortly after the phone incident Marsha was putting away the breakfast dishes when the cabinet door kept opening itself. She secured the door and then it opened and the dishes flew out of it. She is also hearing voices from the basement and is terrified of going near it.

Around this time Dan White and his wife Diane move into the 1st floor apartment with their son. Their son is a few months older than Christine and the couples become friends quickly. It was the only time Marsha ever felt safe.

A few weeks after moving into the apartment, Diane was upstairs with her son visiting Marsha. He had been placed into a baby walker even though he was still so small his feet didn't touch the floor. Marsha noticed that the walker was moving towards the stairs. She was able to grab it just before it went over the edge. The fall would almost certainly have killed the baby.

Marsha tells Ed that the house is haunted and he doesn't believe her but decides to go and search the basement. Ed finds some odd things in the basement such as a bottle filled with Monopoly pieces and bullets. He also finds a hidden room with shoe boxes stacked from floor to ceiling and girlie magazines from the 1930's. The name on the magazines if Ben Verdere. He finds that the shoe boxes are completely filled with images that Ben clipped from the magazines. Ed dubs Ben a pervert and decides not to tell Marsha about him because he feels it has no bearing on the house being haunted and it would upset her.

Marsha was in the habit of taking her bath in the mornings after putting the baby down for a nap. Shortly after Ed searches the basement she is taking a bath when a man grabs her. She sees a horrific face and feels his hands touching her. She runs out of the bathroom to call her husband at work but the phone is flying through the air. Once it all stops and she is able to contact Ed she tells him that they need to call in a priest. They call in an Episcopal Priest to bless the house.

While blessing the house, the Priest is using a brass aspergillum to sprinkle the Holy Water. During the blessing the dispenser shatters (brass doesn't normally shatter). The priest finishes the blessing and leaves very frightened. Ed finally believes that something is wrong with the house and starts to investigate the history of the place.

Ed contacts a neighbor, Walter, that knew the original owners, the Verdere Family. The house was built by them in 1900 and Myra had been the last family member living. Until Ed and Marsha had moved in no one but family had ever lived there. They never smiled and were generally unfriendly and never spoke to neighbors. There were 3 sons, The oldest wasn't named then there was Ben and the youngest son, Henry. There was also daughter Myra.

Walter described Ben as a controlling and very nasty man. He ruled the family with an iron fist. He died of a heart attack in the bathtub on the second floor, the one where Marsha was attacked.
